French Open finalist Dominic Thiem was forced to retire with injury as he trailed Marcos Baghdatis in the first round at Wimbledon.

Thiem was 6-4 7-5 2-0 down when he called time on an attempted turnaround, bowing out shortly after a medical time-out.

The seventh seed has still never been past the fourth round in SW19, despite reaching the Roland Garros final in his last grand slam, where he lost to 'King of Clay' Rafael Nadal.

Thiem had been on course to meet Kyle Edmund or Novak Djokovic if he had made the quarter-finals for the first time in 2018.
