Morgan Parra has confirmed he will miss the rest of Clermont Auvergne's season with an ankle injury.

Clermont's captain had to be helped off in the first half of their 36-16 win over La Rochelle in the European Challenge Cup final at St James' Park on Friday.

The 30-year-old was replaced by Greig Laidlaw, whose kicking masterclass inspired the victory.

Parra later emerged on crutches to celebrate with the trophy on the pitch with his team-mates in Newcastle.

Clermont, who sit second in the Top 14 table, have two regular season fixtures remaining ahead of the play-offs, but Parra will play no part in the remainder of the campaign.

A short message from the club on Twitter read: "Morgan Parra has announced the end of his season after his ankle injury, before wishing the best to his team-mates for the end of the season."
