Norway has proven to be somewhat untouchable when it comes to Pyeongchang, and the country's new record of most medals won in a Winter Olympics is proof of that.

After a third place finish in the inaugural Alpine ski team event, the country's medal total reached 38, surpassing the previous record by one medal.

The Americans set the record eight years ago at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics after they won 37.

Norway did jump up the medal count race significantly from the 2014 Sochi Games where they earned 26 medals, which was the country's previous best. They also earned 26 at the 1994 Lillehammer Games in 1994.

The Norwegians are currently nine ahead of Canada, the country with the second-most medals in the Olympics.

Norway has proven to be unstoppable in cross-country skiing, collecting 13 medals (six of them gold) and there's still a few events left where they could earn more. Those 13 medals from only one sport would put them in the top 12 of the medal count standings.
