South Africa have named a strong squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, which will be played in Pakistan from February 19 to March 9.

Fast bowlers Anrich Nortje and Lungi Ngidi were surprise inclusions for the Proteas, having missed the entire home international season with injuries.

Nortje was pencilled in to play the recent ODI series with Pakistan but missed it with a broken toe.

Ngidi, meanwhile, has been off the cards since before summer, having suffered a groin injury.

Despite their troubles, both are proving their fitness ahead of the Champions Trophy, with Ngidi returning for Paarl Royals in the SA20, while Nortje is scheduled to play for Pretoria Capitals prior to the tournament.

The Champions Trophy will be their first taste of international cricket in seven and four months, respectively.

The squad will be captained by batsman Temba Bavuma and includes 10 players who made it to the semi-finals of the 2023 ODI World Cup in India.

Wiaan Mulder, Tony de Zorzi and Ryan Rickelton will all be playing in their first senior ICC event, while Gerald Coetzee is a notable omission, having struggled with injury.

The 24-year-old sustained a groin issue during South Africa's Test against Sri Lanka in Durban in November.

While he has not returned to the national team since then, he is part of the Joburg Super Kings squad in the SA20.

Full South Africa squad: Temba Bavuma, Tony de Zorzi, Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Wiaan Mulder, Marco Jansen, Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj, Lungi Ngidi, Tabraiz Shamsi, Tristan Stubbs, Ryan Rickelton, Anrich Nortje.
