What the Mavericks do tonight with the No. 5 pick in tonight’s NBA Draft will indicate basically their entire offseason plan.

The Mavericks believe they have a great shot to land DeMarcus Cousins in free agency, according to The Athletic. So, if Dallas stands pat at No. 5 it will likely pass on Texas center Mohamed Bamba if he’s on the board.

The report makes it seem more likely the team will try to move up to select Luka Doncic, possibly with the Grizzlies at No. 4 if Atlanta skips on the Slovenian star.

In addition to Cousins, The Athletic mentioned restricted free agent Clint Capela and DeAndre Jordan as potential targets for Dallas. But let’s not forget, Dallas has fresh wounds from its last run at Jordan, who would have to decline a $24.1 million player option top hit the open market.
