NBA free agency rumors: Kevin Durant signing 1-and-1 contract with Warriors

Kevin Durant is returning to the Warriors.

The 29-year-old forward plans to sign a two-year contract with Golden State, according to a report from ESPN. The report cites unidentified league sources.

Durant will make $30 million in 2018-19. He holds an option, worth $31.5 million, for the second year, the report says.

Durant's new contract falls just below the maximum because of the option, according to ESPN.

The Kevin Durant salary will fall below the $35.65M max salary because of the player option in year 2. The discount would offset the cost if Golden State elects to use the $5.3M tax midlevel.

Durant joined the Warriors before 2016-17 after he spent nine seasons with the Thunder. Golden State has won back-to-back championships and Durant has earned two straight Finals MVP awards during his time with the team.

Durant reportedly declined his player option for next season in mid-April and was an unrestricted free agent. But, he told ESPN during the NBA Finals he planned on re-signing with the Warriors.

Warriors general manager Bob Myers told reporters in mid-June he would offer Durant whatever contract he wanted.

“I just want him to sign a deal," Myers said (via The Athletic). "Want him to be happy and want him to know we want him as long as he wants to be here.”

Durant, a nine-time All-Star, averaged 26.4 points and 6.8 rebounds last season. Golden State also reportedly signed coach Steve Kerr to a contract extension this week.
