Mobile Legends: Bang Bang developer Moonton has partnered with eGG Network to launch the Mobile Legends Professional League (MPL) for Malaysian and Singaporean players.

The first-ever pro league for the popular MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) game came into being following the success of the Mobile Legends SEA Cup, which saw Thailand's I Do Not Sleep defeat Filipino representative Salty Salad in the grand final to walk away with a cash prize of US$50,000 earlier this year.

"After the Mobile Legends SEA Cup, we saw a demand for mobile eSports tournaments from the passionate Malaysian and Singaporean gamers," said Moonton marketing director Mandy Dai.

"The MPL is our contribution to the growing eSports scene and we are confident eGG Network can provide an awesome Mobile Legends experience for fans on all platforms."

She also added that Malaysia and Singapore are just a starting point and they will look into growing the league to cover other countries in the near future.

Lee Choong Khay, Vice President of Astro Sports Business, also echoed her sentiment and commitment to deliver the best experience for the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang community.

"We are excited to partner Moonton to design the league with a 360° approach for maximum engagement with the fans, including a live finals event, broadcasting and hosting on eGG Network with our talent, and create content around the tournament and its players to make this a story driven league," he said.

The tournament will be split into three phases: Open Qualifiers, Regular Season and Playoffs, and will see teams compete for their shares of a US$100,000 prize pool.

Registration will be open from November 14 for the first group of the Open Qualifiers, which will kick off on November 24.
