We know former Louisville coach Rick Pitino is “Coach-2” in the Department of Justice report about the FBI investigation into corruption in college basketball. Now we know “Coach-3” is Miami’s Jim Larranaga.
Reading a statement, Larranaga said he and his legal team believe he is the coach who allegedly had knowledge about an Adidas executive and others conspiring to funnel $150,000 to 2018 recruit Nassir Little.
“It’s been a strain, physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually,” Larranaga said (via PalmBeachPost.com). “It’s something that’s there. I have to deal with it. I have the support of my wife and a wonderful family. I have the support of the university, my staff and players.”
Larranaga, 68, only referenced his statement when asked about the investigation or his relationship with former Adidas executive Jim Gatto.
Late last week, attorneys for Larranaga said (via MiamiHerald.com) “we don’t expect coach Larranaga or anybody at UM to be indicted or arrested. We turned over all the records and relevant documents, and there is no evidence he or his staff were involved in any way with improper recruiting.”
Little, who recently committed to UNC, and his father both signed sworn affidavits saying they never discussed or solicited payments from any other university or shoe company.
