Maxis has announced a partnership with Team Secret’s all-Malaysian PUBG Mobile team.
The collaboration was formalised at a joint launch ceremony at Battle Arena, Jaya Shopping Centre in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, on Friday, with the telco giant aiming to help grow the local esports scene.
"For Maxis, it made perfect sense to collaborate with Team Secret as it gives us the opportunity to amplify local talents and elevate them to the global stage, and collectively promote the growth of the Malaysian esports scene.
"We are also proud of this partnership as it is the coming together of two leaders – for Maxis as the No.1 gaming network in Malaysia and Team Secret, the world-renowned pro gaming team.
"This is something of significance to Maxis, and one that we are proud to be part of as it epitomises our strengths in unlocking the potential and immense possibilities of people and technology in a very unique way," said Tai Kam Leong, Maxis’ Head of Brand & Marketing.
As for Team Secret, the partnership further cemented the venture of the European-based side, who notably have Malaysian Yeik "MidOne" Nai Zhen on their Dota 2 roster, into the Southeast Asia region.
"Being passionately committed to building the esports community, we are thrilled to be venturing into Malaysia as the first market in Southeast Asia.
"There is tremendous energy and enthusiasm here, and it also happens to represent one of the strongest Team Secret fan bases in the world.
"We are really excited to be partnering with Maxis and we look forward to developing Team Secret PUBG Mobile together, working towards the goal of cultivating the positive culture that is critical to success in team-based esports,” said John Yao, Team Secret’s CEO.
Consisting of four Malaysians competing on the mobile version of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, Team Secret PUBG Mobile recently qualified for the PUBG Mobile Club Open (PMCO) 2019 Spring Global Championship, which would be taking place at the end of July in Berlin, Germany.
