New South Wales Blues have added Ryan Matterson and Clint Gutherson to their squad for Sunday's pivotal second State of Origin clash in Perth.

Both players are yet to make their NSW debuts, although Wests Tigers backrow Matterson was the 18th man for the Blues' series-opening 18-14 defeat to Queensland Maroons in Brisbane.

Coach Brad Fittler made sweeping changes on the back of that disappointing display, including dropping star centre Latrell Mitchell, and Parramatta captain Gutherson provides cover across the backline and in the halves.

"It's huge, every kid dreams of being in that State of Origin arena," said 19th man Gutherson.

"Just to be in the squad is huge for me and my family too. I've got to go over there and do my part for the team. Whatever they need me to do, I'll do it."
