Maple Leafs game to go ahead on Sunday after fire at Scotiabank Arena

The Toronto Maple Leafs' game on Sunday will go ahead as scheduled after a small fire resulted in the suspension of a Toronto Raptors game.

The Raptors confirmed the necessary repairs to an overhead speaker that caught fire in the Scotiabank Arena will be made in time for the Maple Leafs' game against the Florida Panthers.

Fans were ordered to leave the Scotiabank Arena with a little over four minutes left in the first half during Saturday's NBA clash between the Raptors and the Indiana Pacers.

The Toronto Fire Department attended the scene and confirmed nobody was injured, though the arena was cleared as a precautionary measure.

Play eventually resumed without fans in attendance, with the Raptors stating this was down to "an abundance of caution".

A subsequent update from the Raptors confirmed that Sunday's NHL meeting between the Maple Leafs and the Panthers will be able to go ahead as planned.

A joint statement from the Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Partnership (MLSE) and the Raptors read: "MLSE and the Toronto Raptors than Toronto Fire Services and Toronto Police Services for their assistance and thank all fans for their patience and orderly evacuation.

"The necessary venue repairs will be executed in time to allow the Toronto Maple Leafs game to proceed as scheduled on Sunday at 7.pm. (local time) against the Florida Panthers."

The Raptors did not feel the loss of the home support, going on to beat the Pacers 131-91.
