Soh Wai Ching broke the current Guinness World Record for the greatest vertical height stair climbing in one hour on Wednesday.
The world No.2 tower running athlete recorded a total of 1.295km by climbing the 66-floor Four Seasons Place in Kuala Lumpur.
He comfortably broke the 1.227km world record set by David Robles Tapia in Zaragoza, Spain in 2019, pending an official review that would be announced within two days.
"There are numerous reasons behind this [world record attempt] including promoting Malaysia to the world and getting more people to take up the sport as well as to raise funds for our association's activities for 2021.
"Through this, I also hope that many more will continue to challenge the boundaries and eventually get this sport recognised and introduced in the Olympics," Soh, who is also president of the Malaysia TowerRunning Association, was quoted saying by Bernama.
