Amy Kwan Dict Weng is set to walk away from the gymnastic floor after the Malaysian rhythmic gymnast signalled her retirement decision to the National Sports Council (NSC).

NSC Athletes' Division director Jefri Ngadirin confirmed a meeting already took place and an announcement would be made soon.

"We have had a meeting with Amy, her coach and the Malaysian Gymnastics Federation about her future.

"She has just finished her study and is ready to consider a different career path after retiring as an athlete," he said.

The 25-year-old memorably won four medals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, including one gold in the ribbon event.

Her outstanding achievements in Gold Coast, Australia, saw her being named the National Sportswoman of the Year in 2018.

She also earned two gold medals when Malaysia hosted the SEA Games in 2017.

Koi Sie Yan, one of Kwan's team-mates, believes she would be bowing out on a high note.

"I asked her previously before she made this decision and she needed to think about it for a very long time.

"I think [she will have no regrets because] she got her target of winning a Commonwealth gold medal for our country.

"Because we train under the same coach, I am going to miss her very much. I wish all the best to her and anything she wants to do in her future," Koi told Astro Arena.
