The Malaysian Cricket Association (MCA) confirmed they were given a notice to vacate the Kinrara Oval in Puchong, Selangor, by October 31.
As reported by Astro Arena on Tuesday, a new developer had taken over the venue for redevelopment purposes and issued the notice to the MCA, putting the future of the sport and thousands of Malaysian cricket players in doubt.
With less than a month left, MCA president V. Mahinda appealed to Amirudin Shari, Chief Minister of Selangor, to step in to be a mediator.
"I hope, through the state government, we can negotiate some arrangement and find a solution," Mahinda told Astro Arena.
Since it was completed in 2003, the Kinrara Oval hosted several international cricket tournaments including the DLF Trophy involving Australia, India and West Indies, and the 2008 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
It was also the ground where cricket was contested as a medal event for the first time in SEA Games history last year.
Due to it being one of the best cricket venues in Asia, MCA patron Tunku Tan Sri Imran Tuanku Ja'afar also hoped a solution can be reached.
"We can play cricket at other parks or football fields, but this venue is special for the sport after we worked hard to develop the place to become an iconic cricket centre," he said.
