Malaysia qualify for 2023 Men's FIH Hockey World Cup

The Malaysia national men's hockey team secured their spot at the 2023 Men's FIH Hockey World Cup thanks to India.
At the ongoing 2022 Hockey Asia Cup, India beat host nation Indonesia 16-0 on Thursday at the Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex in Jakarta.
With the victory, the defending champions overtook Pakistan in Pool A on goal difference and progressed to the Super 4s stage alongside 2018 Asian Games winners Japan.
Malaysia and South Korea from Pool B also reached the second round.

Only the top three teams in Jakarta qualify for the 15th edition of the Men's FIH Hockey World Cup, but as India already qualified by being the hosts, it meant the three other nations automatically sealed their qualification.
It is the Speedy Tigers' ninth overall and third consecutive appearance at the World Cup.
Despite securing World Cup qualification, the Hockey Asia Cup campaign is not over for Malaysia as they are still in the running to win the trophy for the first time.
They came close to doing so in 2017 when they lost 2-1 to India in the final.
Malaysia reached this year's Super 4s by finishing top of Pool B with three wins out of three: 7-0 against Oman, 5-4 against South Korea and 8-1 against Bangladesh.
