Legendary Sam-A, Underdog Josh Tonna Have Plenty At Stake In World Title Clash

Two-sport World Champion Sam-A Gaiyanghadao is ready to defend his Strawweight Muay Thai belt against top contender Josh “Timebomb” Tonna at ONE: REIGN OF DYNASTIES this Friday, 9 October.

The two men will meet at Singapore Indoor Stadium to contest Sam-A’s gold in the main event of the evening.

Sam-A first claimed the ONE Strawweight Muay Thai World Title by defeating Rocky Ogden in February of this year.

The victory made him a two-sport ONE World Champion, as he was already the ONE strawweight kickboxing king.

But due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Sam-A has not been able to defend his belts until now.

The Thai has always said that he wants to continue dominating both sports, but to do so, he’ll have to get past an Australian striker who believes it’s his own time to shine in “the art of eight limbs.”

There’s a good reason that Tonna feels that way.

In his last outing, the Aussie starched legendary striker Andy “Punisher” Howson with a second-round KO by knee.

Not long after, “Timebomb” called out Sam-A – and come Friday, he’ll get just what he asked for.

If he dethrones the divisional king, Tonna will undoubtedly elevate his own status in the sport he’s worked so hard at for more a decade.

Watch ONE: REIGN OF DYNASTIES this Friday, 9 October, on meWATCH or on the ONE Super App at 8:30 p.m. Singapore Standard Time (SGT).

Also, Channel 5 will have the action on a same-day delay at 10 p.m. SGT.
