LaMarcus Aldridge is extending his stay in San Antonio.

The Spurs veteran forward on Monday signed a three-year contract extension worth $72.3 with the team, The Vertical reported.

Aldridge signed a four-year contract worth $80 million with San Antonio in July 2015 after spending the previous nine seasons in Portland. With $21.4 million remaining on his deal, he was eligible to exercise an opt-out option in his contract for the 2018-19 season and become a free agent if an agreement was not reached by the 11:59 deadline Monday.

Since a negotiation was made by midnight, however, Aldridge is able to opt into the $22.3 million player option on his 2018-19 contract and extend his deal for a maximum of three more years.

Aldridge, 32, was selected by the Bulls with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft but immediately had his rights traded to the Trail Blazers. The five-time All-Star averaged 17.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game last season, though he averaged career lows in the playoffs with 16.5 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game.
