The KL Wildcats became the inaugural Netball Super League (NSL) champions after defeating the Johor Jewels 58-47 in the Grand Final on Sunday.

In doing so, the Kuala Lumpur side also recorded a 100% win rate with eight wins out of eight games in the month-long professional netball league, held for the first time this year.

They reached the Grand Final by finishing top of Group A and overcoming the Selangor Angels in the semi-finals.

Led by captain Nur Syafazliyana Ali, goalkeeper Noramirah Dayana Noor Azhar and goal shooter Puteri Intan Balqis Ahmad Dzulkefli, the Wildcats proved to be too strong for the Johor-based team.

After a close first quarter locked at 13-13, they surged ahead in the second quarter to get a six-point lead at half-time.

A resilient defence in the second half saw the Wildcats seal the win over the Jewels, who did not score fewer than 50 points prior to the Grand Final.

Despite the loss, Johor took home two individual awards as Pow Mei Foong and Nur Fariha Abdul Razak were named the Most Valuable Player and Best Attacker respectively.

Nur Syafazliyana was named the Best Defender, Selangor Angels's An Najwa Azizan was the Best Shooter and Perak Phoenix's Pavitra Devi A/P Balakrishnan picked up the Best Young Player award.

Meanwhile, Selangor finished third for the 2021 season after beating Perak 64-45 in the third-place playoff on the same day.
