Jason Kidd could land a job in the NBA this year.

The Hall of Fame point guard is said to be a "serious candidate" to take over the Lakers if Luke Walton is let go after this season, according to ESPN, citing league sources. He's also is expected to be in the running for a job at his alma mater, the University of California, Berkeley

Kidd gained experience as a head coach for the Nets (2013-14) and the Bucks (2014-18). He was fired by Milwaukee in the middle of the 2017-18 season.

The Lakers sit at 31-41 and have been eliminated from playoff contention. They will not appear in the postseason for the fifth consecutive year.

Walton, 38, is just a third-year head coach and has led the Lakers to a 92-154 record overall so far. Reports say he will "almost certainly" be dismissed after 2018-19, but only time will tell.

Los Angeles will attempt to snap a five-game losing streak against the Kings on Sunday.
