Malaysia had a strong outing on the second day of Indonesia Masters as several representatives checked into last 16.

Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik got off to a bright start after the men’s doubles pair ousted English pair Ben Lane-Sean Vendy 21-11, 15-21, 21-8.

The world number seven pair were hoping to come good in Bali after an impressive outing at the French Open, where they lost in the semi-finals by a whisker to South Korean veterans Ko Sung-hyun-Shin Baek-cheol.

The Malaysians, who are in the lower half of the draw, next face Indonesian pair Panjer Dadiara-Bryan Sidney for a place in the quarter-finals.

In the women’s doubles, Pearly Tan-M.Thinaah conquered an all-Malaysian contest against Vivian Hoo-Lim Chiew Sien 21-15, 22-20 in 46-minutes.

They next play Indonesian duo Fitriani Fitriani-Yulia Yosephine for a place in the last eight.

Pearly-Thinaah are the sole representatives left in their category after Lee Meng Yean-Yap Cheng Wen lost their first-round match against Linda Efler-Isabel Lohau.

Mixed doubles pair Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai also did well to beat German pair Mark Lamsfuss-Isabel Lohau 21-12, 21-15 to set up a second-round clash against Hong Kong’s eighth seeds Tang Chun Man-Tse Ying Suet.

Tan Kian Ming-Lai Pei Jing couldn't join them as they battled for an hour before bowing out 10-21, 21-12, 16-21 to Japan's third seeds Yuta Watanabe-Arisa Higashino.

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s challenge in the men’s singles ended after Liew Daren lost 20-22, 19-21 to India’s H.S.Prannoy.

Lee Zii Jia had on Tuesday retired in his second consecutive match after suffering a recurring hip injury after 13 minutes against Rasmus Gemke.
