Hull FC announced the departure of head coach Lee Radford in the immediate aftermath of a 38-4 home loss to Warrington Wolves on Thursday.

Birthday boy Gareth Widdop and Blake Austin both crossed twice for the Wolves, while Tom Lineham, Anthony Gelling and Ben Murdoch-Masila also grabbed tries in the rout.

Hull's supporters finally had something to cheer when Kieran Buchanan went over down the left as the hosts at least avoided bing shut out, though the late try was not enough to spare Radford.

Chairman Adam Pearson told Sky Sports after the game that the team were not "going in the right direction", leading to him making a change early in the 2020 season.

"Lee and I have decided to call it a day tonight, Pearson said in a post-match interview usually undertaken with the coach.

"It was a decision that didn't rest easily with me, but I don't think obviously we are going in the right direction at the minute, so we've decided to go our separate ways.

"I'd like to place on record the unbelievable job he's done. He's a stand-up, loyal guy who works tremendously hard. He's put his life into this club for seven years, so we are going to miss him."

Pearson confirmed Andy Last and Kieron Purtill will take temporary charge of the first-team squad.

Hull FC can confirm that head coach Lee Radford has parted company with the club. The club would like to place on record their immense gratitude for Lee's hard work, passion and loyalty for the club over the last seven years. Full statement to follow. pic.twitter.com/H2Tt0Bdasz
