Marcel Hirscher will take his record tally of overall FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup titles to eight despite finishing sixth in the giant slalom at Kranjska Gora, with Henrik Kristoffersen winning Saturday's race.

Hirscher sits 485 points clear at the top of the standings with a maximum 500 available for nearest rival Alexis Pinturault.

However, Pinturault has yet to compete in a downhill ahead of Wednesday's race in Soldeu, meaning Hirscher is seemingly certain to seal the overall globe again.

It has been another dominant World Cup campaign for the Austrian great, Hirscher - who tweeted his delight at an impending eighth triumph after the giant slalom - having already claimed the giant slalom and slalom titles.

Hirscher had won 13 of the 16 giant slalom races staged so far this season, but it was Kristoffersen who topped the podium in Slovenia on Saturday.

The Norwegian followed up his successes at the World Championships in Are and in the Bansko World Cup by claiming a third giant slalom victory on the spin in all competitions.

Kristoffersen clocked one minute, 12.38 seconds in his second run to continue his purple patch, denying compatriot Rasmus Windingstad by a margin of 0.24secs.

Switzerland's Marco Odermatt completed the podium, with Hirscher failing to match his usual high standards but doing enough to ensure Pinturault has no chance of overhauling him.
