Gold Coast 2018: Nafiizwan bags first Commonwealth Games medal

Nafiizwan Adnan beat Wales' Joel Makin in the men's singles bronze medal match for his maiden Commonwealth Games medal on Monday.

The 31-year-old, who lost to England's James Willstrop in the semi-finals, needed 74 minutes to overcome his opponent 11-7, 6-11, 9-11, 11-4, 11-5.

His bronze medal was Malaysia's fourth medal overall and first not involving weightlifters at Gold Coast 2018.

With the victory, Nafiizwan also became the third Malaysian squash player to win a Commonwealth Games medal after Ong Beng Hee and Nicol David, who was also involved in a bronze medal match with a Welsh player on the same day.

However, the Malaysian squash queen was defeated in four sets 7-11, 11-3, 10-12, 7-11 by Tesni Evans.

Evan's success secured Wales' first squash medal in 20 years, when Alex Gough clinched men's singles bronze alongside England's Paul Johnson in Kuala Lumpur.
