Gold Coast 2018: Khairul crashes out of 100m

Khairul Hafiz Jantan was unable to reach the men's 100m final at the 2018 Commonwealth Games after finishing fourth in the first-round heat on Sunday.

The Speedy Jantan, whose fastest record was 10.18s, clocked 10.50s to finish behind Australia's Trae Williams (10.28s) and Kenya's Mark Otieno Odhiambo (10.35s) for the two automatic spots of Heat Nine.

The 2017 SEA Games gold medallist could perhaps count himself unlucky, as his time matched those of Barbados' Ramon Gittens in Heat Two and Lesotho's Mosito Lehata, who both qualified for the semi-finals by finishing second.

A false start was also called in his heat, which he claimed affected his concentration.

"Maybe the false start caused me to lose my focus a little," he told Astro Arena.

"I am sorry, I already did my best but it was just not my day."

Meanwhile, Zaidatul Husniah Zulkifli qualified for the women's 100m semi-finals by finishing third with a time of 11.64s in Heat Five.
