A total of 150 Malaysian athletes and officials will take part in the parade of contingents at the opening ceremony of the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, on Wednesday.

Triple jump athlete Hakimi Ismail was selected as the Jalur Gemilang flag bearer at the opening ceremony of the Games, which would take place at the Carrara Stadium and see the participation of over 6,600 athletes and officials from 71 Commonwealth countries.

Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) honourary secretary Low Beng Choo said not the entire national contingent, led by Chef-de-Mission Huang Yung How and comprising of 178 athletes and 95 officials, would take part in the parade.

"The national contingent will wear red and blue Baju Melayu and Baju Kurung designed by Cosry, which were worn during the opening ceremony of the 29th SEA Games last year," he said after the flag-raising ceremony at the Games Village in the Griffith University.

"Not all athletes will take part as we want athletes whose events start tomorrow [Thursday] to get enough rest and be well prepared."

In another development, Low advised the national athletes to be extra cautious when taking meals and not to consume food from outside the sports village.

"Team managers have been asked to always remind athletes to be careful when eating, not just restricted to prohibited substances that can result in a positive doping test," he said.
