Malaysian golfer Gavin Green pulled off one of his best performances to date as he finished in a tie for third at the 2020 Saudi International on Sunday.

The 26-year-old, who finished T11 in the same event last year, scored a nine-under 271 to share the third spot with Phil Mickelson and Thomas Pieters at the Royal Greens Golf and Country Club in King Abdullah Economic City, Saudi Arabia.

He also finished ahead of world number one Brooks Koepka and highest ranked Southeast Asian golfer Jazz Janewattananond.

Graeme McDowell took home the crown ahead of 2016 US Open winner Dustin Johnson.

Green, who was the 2017 Asian Tour Order of Merit champion, initially set the early pace alongside McDowell at six-under in the opening round of the US$3,500,000 tournament on Thursday.

Despite losing the lead to Victor Perez in the second round, he maintained his composure to remain near the top before he was undone by five bogeys in the final round.

Besides improving his world ranking from 197th to 146th, the achievement marked Green's third top-three finish in European Tour competitions, after finishing as runner-up at the 2017 Indian Open and third at the 2018 Czech Masters.
