Four-try Hurrell not enough for struggling Leeds at Hull KR

Leeds Rhinos remained rooted to the bottom of the Super League table as a second-half fightback fell short in a 45-26 defeat at Hull KR despite Konrad Hurrell's four-try showing.

The visitors were blown away in the opening 40 minutes and allowed Rovers through for five first-half scores, with the tone set in the early stages of Thursday's meeting at Craven Park.

Tommy Lee went over after three minutes and Danny McGuire followed suit against his former club four minutes later. Only a further six minutes passed before Will Oakes added a third try.

Hurrell belatedly got Leeds on the scoreboard, yet another ex-Rhino, Mitch Garbutt, and Taioalo Vaivai had both crossed by the time the Leeds centre went through again late in the opening period.

Leeds were much improved after the break and Brad Singleton scored before Hurrell's hard running was rewarded with his hat-trick try.

But Josh Drinkwater lunged for the line to give Hull some breathing space once more and even another breathless Hurrell dart could not rescue a result for the visitors, who conceded again to Ben Crooks on the hooter.

Four tries for Konrad Hurrell are scant consolation for the Rhinos as they suffer a heavy defeat at the hands of Hull KR. FULL TIME Hull Kingston Rovers 45 - 26 Leeds pic.twitter.com/5qeM6Y0Ulw
