Andre Emmett, an All-American at Texas Tech before spending parts of two seasons in the NBA, was shot and killed in Dallas early Monday, according to numerous reports. He was 37 years old.

Emmett enjoyed a decorated career at Texas Tech from 2000-2004 and still holds the program record for career points at 2,256. He was a three-time Big 12 All-Conference first-team selection and a consensus All-American in 2004.

After being selected with the 35th pick in the 2004 NBA Draft by the SuperSonics and later traded to the Memphis Grizzlies, Emmett had a winding professional career that took him to the developmental league, Lithuania, Belgium, France, Venezuela, China and several other overseas leagues.
He played only 14 games in the NBA — eight for Memphis during the 2004-05 season and six for the New Jersey Nets during the 2011-12 season.
Most recently, Emmett played for 3’s Company of the BIG3 league, finishing second in total points (134) during the 2019 season behind only Joe Johnson (175).
