The Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) took a drastic decision of dropping national women’s elite cyclist Fatehah Mustapa from the list of 17 cyclists to the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia.
Asian Games cycling squad manager Firdaus Arshad said the decision was made by national head coach John Beasley, who was not satisfied with her performances at several recent championships.
"I got to know the decision yesterday and the coach will inform Fatehah soon.
"We are targeting one gold medal in the men’s sprint event and I am happy with the total number of cyclists listed after several appeals,” Firdaus told reporters after submitting the list to Malaysia's Asian Games Selection Committee at Wisma OCM on Tuesday.
Firdaus said 11 cyclists including several Podium Programme athletes would be placed under the all-expenses paid Category A, while the rest would be in Category B.
