Mark Wood bowled over cricket fans with a comical dance routine, revealing a "sexy kitten" act as he laid down a lockdown challenge to England team-mates.

The 30-year-old paceman and World Cup winner is, like every England player, at home and hoping for the coronavirus pandemic to pass.

And after being persuaded by batsman Joe Denly to show off his moves, Wood pulled off a flamboyant act - perhaps hinting at a hidden talent.

In a home video titled 'Mark Wood Teaches Dance', Durham star Wood initially speaks to the camera, saying: "Hi everyone, hope you're well, hope you're looking after each other.

"Joe Denly challenged me to do a dance video. Well, Joe, I have done it. My challenge is to you at home now to have a go at your own dance moves or you can even try mine - see if you can do it."

In his garden routine, Wood shows off moves he describes as 'mantis', 'starfish' and 'tiramisu' before following a 'beef toe' step with a less-than-dainty roll across the grass.

His 'sexy kitten' move contains a knowingly coy glance to the camera on all fours, before Wood signs off by urging Denly and Liam Plunkett to respond with dances of their own.

Plunkett was quick to post a response, writing: "Challenge Accepted. @markwood here's some chariots of fire for your sexy kitten. An old school response to your new school of dance."

In his own performance, Plunkett offers a rhythmic gymnastic element as he flourishes a red ribbon.

Plunkett relayed the challenge too, inviting Jason Roy, David Willey and Chris Woakes to dust off their dancing shoes, a portent of more dancing down the back-yard batting strip to come.
