The ATM Guardians edged towards the Emas Anuar Sepak Takraw League (STL) Premier title after defeating the in-form Bomba Fighters in a hard-fought contest on Sunday.

The league leaders were pushed to their limit at the Panji Sports Complex, Kota Bharu, to secure the 21-14, 16-21, 21-19 win over the Fighters, who had won their last four matches.

Coupled with the Kuala Lumpur Thunder's surprise loss to the Johor Tigris on Saturday, the Guardians extended their lead over the defending champions to eight points at the top, albeit playing one more match.

Depending on results, ATM, who were last crowned champions in 2015, could secure this season's title as early as this coming Friday.

They take on Johor and the Thunder, who could win a maximum 10 points from their remaining five matches, face the Selangor Pistons.

Selangor should head into the Klang Valley derby in a good mood after all but mathematically ending the Putrajaya Cyborg's title bid by bagging a 19-21, 21-17, 21-14 comeback win.

Meanwhile, the Kelantan Warriors looked set to be relegated to Division 1 after suffering a 21-23, 8-21 defeat to the Penang Black Panthers.

Currently bottom of the standings, Kelantan would have to win all their remaining four matches to stand a chance of escaping relegation.
