Greg Eden scored a hat-trick as Castleford Tigers thrashed Widnes Vikings 52-24 in an entertaining final regular-season match of this year's Super League.

The visiting Tigers climbed into third with victory as they prepare for the Super 8s, although there was little surprise that Widnes - with only three wins all year - posed little threat.

Castleford were comfortable barring a spell in the first half in which Patrick Ah Van and Rhys Hanbury both crossed to put the Vikings in front, cancelling out Eden's opener.

Eden soon responded and the away side accelerated out of site as Jacob Trueman scored and Quentin Laulu-Togaga'e added a brace in a frantic spell before the half-hour mark.

A try from Harrison Hansen on the stroke of half-time looked to have brought Widnes back into contention, but another quickfire double - from Oliver Holmes and Mitchell Clark - put the visitors back in control following the restart.

Eden's treble was complete as he intercepted to score from 90 yards with just over 20 minutes remaining, before Ah Van and Adam Milner traded late tries as Castleford cruised.
