Steven Finn has been added to England's squad for the 2017-18 Ashes, with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) stating Ben Stokes "will not travel at this stage" amid ongoing investigations.

A final decision has yet to be taken on the involvement of Stokes, who has retained his ECB central contracts.

Stokes, England's Test vice-captain, remains the subject of an Avon and Somerset Police investigation - as well as a Cricket Discipline Commission process - after he was arrested last month.

The 26-year-old all-rounder was held overnight on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm and released under investigation without charge following an altercation in Bristol, which occurred in the early hours of the morning.

Both Stokes and Alex Hales - who was out with his team-mate but not arrested - were duly made unavailable for selection until further notice by the ECB.

On Friday, the ECB confirmed three further players - Jonny Bairstow, Liam Plunkett and Jake Ball - had accepted written warnings and fines for "unprofessional conduct - unrelated to the investigations into Ben Stokes and Alex Hales".

Director of England Cricket Andrew Strauss said: "With the Ashes just around the corner, it's important to give the players, the coaching staff and supporters some clarity around a complex situation.

"We have spoken to Ben and assured him that our decision in no way prejudges the outcome of the ongoing police investigation or Cricket Discipline Commission process, as can be seen by the award of [Test and ODI/T20] central contracts."

On Finn's inclusion in the Ashes squad, due to depart on October 28, Strauss added: "Steven is a high-quality cricketer, with considerable experience of both international cricket and Australian conditions.

"The selectors believe he will add to the range of options and the squad will be further supported by the arrival of the Lions in Australia in November."

In addition to Stokes, a further seven players - Bairstow, Joe Root, Moeen Ali, James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Alastair Cook and Chris Woakes - have been awarded Test central contracts by the ECB.

Ball has received a white-ball contract for the first time, while Hales keeps his deal and Toby Roland-Jones has been granted a maiden incremental contract.
