Jack Draper will miss the forthcoming United Cup, but is optimistic about competing at the Australian Open, as the British number one continues his recovery from a hip injury.

Draper cancelled a scheduled training camp with reigning French Open and Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz in Spain this week due to a "bit of a niggle".

The US Open semi-finalist has now been advised against playing in the United Cup, with Great Britain set to face Argentina in Sydney on December 30.

Draper will also sit out the Davis Cup tie with Japan in late January, though the world number 15 said he is managing his workload in a bid to be fit for the season's opening major at the Australian Open, which begins on January 12.

"As I work to get on top of my hip injury and get match fit, I have unfortunately been advised not to play in the United Cup," he posted on his social media channels.

"While we are very positive about competing in the Australian Open this year, I know I won't be able to jump straight into a packed schedule as I manage and strengthen my hip.

"I'm gutted as I was really looking forward to playing in the United Cup for the first time."

Top 20 ! I remember 14 months ago I was sat on the coach at home watching the Wimbledon final and seeing my ranking drop outside top 100. Head was in the shed ! Shows what consistent work and great people around you can do !! Hungry for more.
