Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell left Friday's game against the Lakers early with a rib injury.

Utah announced during the game that Mitchell suffered a rib contusion and he would not return. Mitchell left in the second quarter with the Jazz losing 26-20. He had four points, three rebounds and two steals before exiting.

The Jazz fell to the Lakers 90-83, and coach Quin Snyder said after the loss that the team couldn't use Mitchell's absence as an excuse.

"He's our leading scorer, and it impacts the game," Snyder told reporters after Friday's loss. "But I don't think our guys — it's not a crutch or an excuse. I like the fact that our guys kept competing ... other guys got to pick it up."

The Jazz fell to 8-11 and have now lost three straight games.
