DeMarcus Cousins switches agent amid reports he has 'no market'

DeMarcus Cousins has made a change.

The 28-year-old center has switched agents and will now be represented by Jeff Schwartz of Excel Sports, according to a report from the New York Times. The news comes just days after ESPN reported there was “no market” for Cousins, who remains a free agent.

Cousins signed a one-year, $5.3 million deal with the Warriors last summer and missed the team’s first 45 games as he continued to recover from a torn Achilles. He finished the regular season averaging 16.3 points and 8.2 rebounds in 25.7 minutes per appearance.

Cousins also tore his left quadriceps muscle and missed most of the playoffs, although he returned for the NBA Finals, where the Warriors fell to the Raptors in six games.

“I’m getting my game right,” Cousins told The Undefeated last month. “Getting my game back. Being myself. Getting in better shape. Getting my legs underneath me. It’s going to be a good offseason for me. I’m excited about that. I look forward to go to training camp and all of that.”

Cousins remains one of the only big names left unsigned. He has been linked to the Kings and Knicks while he has not ruled out a return to the Warriors.

“I think there’s a chance (Cousins comes back),” Golden State coach Steve Kerr said. “I would say the hope is frankly that he can do a lot better financially than what we could offer him. But who knows? Every year is different.

“But I could absolutely foresee a place for DeMarcus here if he wanted to come back. It’s just a question of what are his goals? What’s out there for him?”

The four-time All-Star has averaged 21.2 points and 10.9 rebounds over his nine-year career.
