Crusaders tame Lions for 25th straight home win

The Crusaders racked up a 25th straight home Super Rugby victory after making easy work of the Lions in a 36-10 win at Christchurch Stadium.

In a repeat of last season's final, which Crusaders won 37-18, it was another dominant performance for the New Zealand franchise, who are now just one shy of their record home run.

Sevu Reece brilliantly drew in two defenders to set up Braydon Ennor for the opening try and finished with two of his own – including a brilliant effort in the corner.

George Bridge also touched down twice, while Richie Mo'unga celebrated his 50th Super Rugby appearance and a new three-year deal with New Zealand Rugby by kicking 11 points.

It was always a tough ask for a Lions side who have now lost 11 of their past 12 matches against the New Zealand Conference and overall table-toppers.

In Friday's other fixture, the Highlanders – who ended a seven-game winless streak last time out – hammered the struggling Sunwolves 52-0.

The Highlanders ran in eight tries, with Tom Franklin, Tyrel Lomax, Tevita Li (2), Josh Ioane, Liam Coltman and Sio Tomkinson crossing the whitewash.

It means the Highlanders are third in the New Zealand Conference and fifth in the overall standings.
