The Coyotes granted head coach Rick Tocchet a leave of absence Monday, allowing him to deal with a family illness, the team announced.

"Family comes first," Coyotes GM John Chayka said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Toc as he deals with this personal matter. It's important that he takes the time to be there with his family."

The Coyotes made no other details available. Assistant coach John MacLean will lead the team until Tocchet returns.

Arizona (22-35-11) is last in the Pacific Division in its first year under Tocchet.
