Commonwealth Games: Second diving silver for Dhabitah in Birmingham

Nur Dhabitah Sabri clinched her second medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games after she finished second in the women's three-metre springboard event on Sunday.

Despite placing sixth during the qualifying round, the six-time Southeast Asian Games gold medallist kicked into gear in the final at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre.

The 23-year-old scored an impressive 330.90 points but was unable to outdive Australia's Maddison Keeney (348.95 points) for the top spot.

Similar to her women's synchronised 10m platform performance with Pandelela Rinong, she had a strong start but a poor fourth dive allowed Keeney to overtake and go on to seal the victory.

Canadian diver Mia Vallée (329.25 points) bagged bronze, while Dhabitah's team-mate, Ong Ker Ying, finished last with 231.60 points.

Dhabitah's achievement was the diving team's third medal contribution to the national contingent's haul after her earlier success with Ng Yan Yee and the partnership of Gabriel Gilbert Daim and Syafiq Puteh yielded one silver.

Meanwhile, on the same day, Bertrand Rhodict Libis placed sixth in the men's 10-metre platform final.

The Sarawakian was the only Malaysian to reach the final as Hanis Jaya Surya finished last in the preliminary round.

Malaysia's hunt for a diving gold medal continues on Monday, the last day of the 2022 edition, in the mixed synchronised three-metre springboard and mixed synchronised 10-metre platform events.

They won one gold medal in each of the last three editions.
