The CIMB Foundation Rising Star National Junior Circuit made its return for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic broke out in Malaysia two years ago.

The first leg of the 17th edition took place from May 18th to 22th at the National Squash Centre in Bukit Jalil.

Adam Johan of Melaka won the Boys Under-13s category by beating his opponent from Kedah, Haiqal Hazim, in a five-set thriller, winning 9-11, 11-8, 11-4, 3-11, 11-9.

Meanwhile in the Girls Under-13s category, fifth seed Yek Rui Jean emerged victorious in straight sets over another Kedah youngster, Emelda Camalia, as she won 11-4, 11-8, 11-8.

For the Under-11s category, Lokkesh Wigneswaran of Negeri Sembilan took home the boys' title and S. Yoga Varunayvie of Perak was the girls' winner.

Hisshan Nair Tan and Nurul Nisa Najihah won the Boys Under-9s and Girls Under-9s events respectively.

The second leg is scheduled to take place in August in Kangar, Perlis, before the Grand Finals takes place in October.

The competition, which helped groom current Malaysia number ones Ng Eain Yow and S. Sivangari, is part of the programmes held in partnership between the Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia (SRAM) and the CIMB Foundation formed since 2006.
