Chris Paul trade rumors: ‘There's not a team in the league’ willing to deal for Rockets guard

The Rockets may not have many options if they decide to trade Chris Paul.

Paul has asked Houston to move him because his relationship with star James Harden is “unsalvageable,” according to a report from Yahoo Sports . But, Paul does not have much value on the trade market because of the $125 million remaining on his contract, The Athletic’s Shams Charania said Tuesday during an appearance on CBS Sports Network.

Charania reported:

"There's not a team in the league right now that is (willing) to trade for Chris Paul. Even teams that they've called, I’m told, as just a (salary) dump, like 'We'll give you Chris Paul for free,' those teams are like 'No, we're good.' The value just is not there right now.”

Paul averaged 15.6 points, 8.2 assists and 4.6 rebounds in 58 games for the Rockets last season. He shot 41.9% from the field and 35.8% from 3-point range.

The 34-year-old guard, who signed a four-year, $160 million extension with Houston in July 2018, denied Yahoo Sports’ report in an Instagram comment.

The Rockets finished 2018-19 with a 53-29 record but fell to the Warriors in six games in the Western Conference semifinals. Golden State has eliminated Houston from the playoffs in two straight seasons.

Houston is “actively exploring the trade market for Clint Capela, Eric Gordon and PJ Tucker” and is “operating under the belief that at least one of those three” players will not be on the team next season, according to an earlier report from the New York Times.

"I can promise you, we're going to win some championships with James Harden, because we are not going to sit here,” Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta told reporters last month. “We will go to battle every year. We're going to have a strong offseason, and we're going to do whatever we can to be a better team. We are not going to sit on our hands, I can promise you that."

Meanwhile, coach Mike D’Antoni has reportedly had contentious talks with the Rockets about a contract extension. He has one more season remaining on his current deal.
