The Cavaliers still believe they can be successful this season.
Cleveland has opened 2018-19 with an 0-3 record and suffered a blowout 133-111 loss to the Hawks last weekend. But, the team’s front office “is still committed to winning this year rather than tearing down” and rebuilding, according to a report from The Athletic, which cites an unidentified league source.
Cleveland had originally planned to cut the minutes of Kyle Korver, JR Smith and Channing Frye in an effort to go younger, according to the report. Coach Tyronn Lue, however, plans to add the veterans back into the rotation after the 0-3 start.
Cavaliers star Kevin Love told the Athletic that “the guys who know how to win have to play.”
“I think having Kyle and Channing and JR, those guys know how to win in this league and having them will help bring the others along,” Love said. “So, they need to play.”
Love, who has become Cleveland’s go-to scorer following LeBron James’ departure to Los Angeles this summer, has averaged 20.7 points and 14.3 rebounds in the first three games of 2018-19.
Cleveland will return to the court when it faces the Nets on Wednesday.
