The shoe chase is over for brands wanting the Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo after he announced Tuesday that he is re-signing with Nike.
The 22-year-old started his career with Nike under a contract for $25,000, but since his four-year contract expired at the end of last season he was forced to make a decision on which brand he would represent next.
Despite Adidas delivering a truck full of size 16 Adidas branded sneakers in September, he went with Nike.
Antetokounmpo took to social media to share his decision in a video and a caption that said, "Family. Loyalty. Legacy. Excited to announce my long-term partnership with @NikeBasketball."
Nike's original pitch, according to ESPN.com, included that Antetokounmpo would become just the 22nd player ever to receive his own signature sneaker with the brand.
This announcement has to be a bit of a relief for Nike, which has experienced some trouble lately with its jerseys tearing during games. Now, it will have one of NBA's budding stars continuing to represent its brand.
