Brilliant Broncos end Roosters' winning streak

Sydney Roosters missed the chance to move back to the top of the NRL ladder as Brisbane Broncos ended their eight-game winning streak in a 15-10 triumph.

The Roosters had emerged victorious in each of their matches since a 26-16 loss to South Sydney Rabbitohs in round one, but Brisbane came out on top, James Segeyaro's 69th-minute try proving the crucial score.

A sign it was not going to be Sydney's day came early on when Brisbane-born Cooper Cronk – one try away from his 100th in NRL – was sin-binned for a professional foul on Darius Boyd, but the depleted Roosters went ahead anyway as James Tedesco burrowed through.

Payne Haas replied with his first NRL try, holding off three men to get Brisbane on the board, with Jamayne Isaako and Latrell Mitchell trading two-pointers to ensure it was 8-8 at the half.

Anthony Milford's field goal nudged the Broncos ahead and Segeyaro dummied to pass before sneaking through to provide the all-important second try, with Mitchell's second penalty only reducing the margin of defeat for the Roosters, for whom England international Ryan Hall made his NRL debut.

Patrick Herbert scored 18 points as New Zealand Warriors consigned Penrith Panthers to their sixth straight loss, the NRL's bottom side going down 30-10 at home.

Issac Luke, Kodi Nikorima and Agnatius Paasi also touched down for the Warriors, who moved up to 10th.
