The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) are resigned to the fact their national shuttlers are set to lose Olympics qualification points after the cancellation of the German Open due to Covid-19 (Coronavirus).
"We have got the news from the Badminton World Federation (BWF), and we will need to plan our next steps for the shuttlers. For now they will be training as usual.
"We are still hoping that the All-England Championships (March 11-15) goes ahead as scheduled. For now we have not received any news of any possible cancellation," said BAM secretary Kenny Goh.
Several national shuttlers, including men's doubles duo Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and mixed doubles pair Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Jemie Lai, are currently training in Paris, where they had been preparing for the German Open.
Up till now, there have been 381 cases and 12 deaths reported in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland.
With Switzerland also being one of the countries affected, it remains to be seen if the Swiss Open (March 17-22) would proceed.
The BWF also announced the Polish Open would be postponed to unknown new dates, falling outside the Olympic qualification period ending on April 30.
There are also increasing concerns that the Tokyo Olympics could be postponed altogether due to this global outbreak.
