Azeem Fahmi had another memorable outing at the 2022 World Athletics U20 Championships in Cali, Colombia, as he rewrote the Malaysian under-20 record in the men's 200m event on Wednesday.
After setting a new national senior record in men's 100m, the 18-year-old clocked 20.83s in his preliminary heat to finish ahead of Australia's Aidan Murphy (20.85s) and Jamaica's Bryan Levell (20.85s), advancing to the semi-finals that would be held later on the same day.
His previous personal best was 20.89s, and he was victorious in the event at the National Championships with a time of 21.63s last March.
Russel Alexander Nasir Taib still holds the current national record at 20.77s, which he recorded at the Queensland Track Classic in Brisbane three years ago.
At the time of writing, Botswana's Letsile Tebogo, who won the men's 100m final with a new record time on Tuesday, would be the sprinter to beat again as he achieved the new championship record at 19.98s.
