Despite starting well, Malaysian equestrian rider Qabil Ambak Mahamad Fathil had to settle for a silver medal in the individual dressage event at the 2018 Asian Games on Thursday.
After topping both Prix St-Georges (74.881%) and intermediate (73.499%) rounds, the 38-year-old and his steed, Rosenstolz, were in a good position to claim gold in the intermediate freestyle stage at the Jakarta International Equestrian Park.
However, the 11-time SEA Games gold medalist, who won bronze in the event at the 2010 edition in Guangzhou, only managed to score 76.620%, finishing just 0.425% behind winner Jacqueline Siu of Hong Kong, while South Korea's Kim Hyeok (75.805%) bagged a bronze medal.
The silver medal was Qabil's seventh overall medal, and Malaysia's 10th, in Asian Games history.
Only South Korean rider Suh Jungkyun has won more equestrian medals at the Asian Games than he has.
Meanwhile, Siu became only the second non-South Korean rider to win the event since it was first introduced in 1986, with Japan's Mieko Yagi coming out on top in 1994 in Hiroshima.
