Malaysian karate exponent S. Prem Kumar won a bronze medal after beating Hong Kong’s Lee Chun Ho 5-0 in a bronze medal match in the men’s kumite under-60kg category at the Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games on Sunday.
In the action in the Plenary Hall at the Jakarta Convention Centre, he shared the bronze medal with Uzbekistan’s Saymatov Sadriddin, who defeated Nguyen Van Hai of Vietnam 8-1 in the other bronze decider.
Indonesia’s Arrosyiid Rifki Ardiansyah secured a gold medal after overcoming Mahdi Zadeh Amir of Iran 9-7 in the final.
Meanwhile, Syakilla Salni Jefry Krisnan, who won gold in the women's kumite under-61kg category in Incheon four years ago, would go home empty-handed after losing to Macau's Wong Sok I in a women's kumite under-55kg bronze medal match.
