The Malaysian women’s handball squad started their Jakarta-Palembang 2018 Asian Games campaign on a poor note, losing 15-23 to hosts Indonesia in an opening match in Group B at GOR Popki Cibubur, Jakarta, on Tuesday.
Malaysia gave a stiff fight initially and were behind 9-12 at half-time, but in the second half Indonesia chalked up another 11 points to seal the victory while the Malaysian girls only six.
Malaysia will next go up against 2014 silver medalists Japan on August 19.
The Malaysia men’s team, who received a 11-64 hiding from Asian champions Qatar in the opening match of Group A on Monday, will face Iran on Wednesday.
