Anisimova falls at final hurdle as Hsieh takes Japan title

Teenage surprise package Amanda Anisimova was unable to claim her maiden WTA title on Sunday as Hsieh Su-wei won the Japan Women's Open.

American Anisimova, who only turned 17 a fortnight ago, has shown considerable promise in Hiroshima, progressing to the final without dropping a set and knocking out top seed Zhang Shuai along the way.

But Hsieh took less than an hour to chalk up her third career title as she thumped Anisimova 6-2 6-2.

The result represented a measure of revenge for Chinese Taipei number one Hsieh after Anisimova won their only previous meeting 6-0 6-1 in Honolulu last year.

All three of Hsieh's wins on the WTA Tour have come in Asia, with Sunday's victory adding to previous titles at the Malaysian and Guangzhou opens - both in 2012.

The triumph will also see Hsieh climb back into the world's top 30 for the first time since February 2013.
